Toy town challenges

Scenario 1: Severely reduced rainfall

In this future scenario Toy Town is experiencing a prolonged period of extreme drought with rainfall being reduced by 50%. The mayor wishes to ensure that water demand is met 100% of the time via retrofitting neighbourhoods. Find a solution whereby the minimum number of properties are modified (either their internal components and/or their connections).

Challenge:

Maximise the circular economy score and make sure that the following constraint is met.

Object Value
Water Demand Met 100%

Scenario 2: High population growth and rainfall reduction

In this future scenario there has been a dramatic increase in the population of Toy Town which coupled with reduction in rainfall has put significant strain on water resources whereby water demand is met less than 50% of the time, environmental flows in the river are under 50% and there are high pollution values downstream. The mayor has released funding for modifying properties in neighbourhood B and allow for review of reservoir management such as controlling discharge parameters.

Challenge:

Maximise the circular economy score and make sure that the following constraints are met.

Object Value
Water Demand Met 100%
Upstream environmental flow ≥70%
Pollution Index < 20%
